Taking a break

Lamorna

The studios are set in the beautiful Lamorna Valley situated West of Penzance just past Mousehole – famous for its stunning scenery and artistic heritage. A few minutes walk from the delightful sandy cove where you can swim, walk the National Trust coastal pathway or eat at the wonderful cove cafe which was recently recommended for its food by the Sunday Times. There is a traditional Cornish Pub set in the heart of the village only a few minutes amble from the school (a perfect setting for a post studio discussion).

Painting in the Studio

Gareth provides individual day tuition. As an experienced teacher for over 20 years and an exhibiting artist he is able to provide a contemporary context for a painting student.    His ethos is to encourage each student to discover and fulfil their potential within a Contemporary art context – aspects of modern painting from techniques to subject matter will be covered.

You will be encouraged to discover your personal responses and pathways from a range of stimuli – from looking at other artists work, to dealing with personal issues or responding to the immediate environment. Gareth has tremendous experience in guiding students through modern and post modern approaches to making paintings.

It is hoped that those students who want to develop their painting skills and ideas in readiness for exhibitions, applications to galleries/colleges or for personal growth in a safe , supportive and inspiring environment may want to sign up. Only one or two students at the most, are encouraged which will enable quality tuition, attention and guidance.

Course duration and cost

Please contact gareth.edwardstuition@gmail.com

The cost of all courses includes most materials, although you are encouraged to bring a selection of decorating brushes.

What’s included?

The course does not include accommodation; follow the accommodation links for some lovely places to stay.

The course cost includes a light lunch but not an evening meal. This gives you a great opportunity to explore our local gastronomic provision including two restaurants in the village, both with sea views.

What to bring

Students are encouraged to bring some photographs and images that they may want to use as an inspiration for a new painting. This is not essential but has proved useful for some clients in the past, like an artistic mood board.  The atmosphere at the school is very friendly, encouraging and inspiring, dedicated to personal expressiveness and individual creativity.

We guarantee you will take away new skills, enduring inspiration and some new paintings from whichever course you choose, along with some very happy memories.

There are some steep steps on the premises that link the terraces.
